The CEU Library’s Media Hub and the Visual Studies Platform are pleased to offer two introductory podcasting workshops this spring, each with a different content focus, open to CEU students, faculty and staff. Both will utilize the CEU Library’s Audio Lab, which includes the soundproof Recording Studio, the Mixing Suite for audio post-production, as well as a range of audio field recording equipment. After completing the workshop, participants are authorized to use the Audio Lab’s resources in the future. Both workshops will be comprised of six sessions held over eight weeks: five consecutive sessions, a 2-week break for production, then one final session.
Workshop 1: Podcasting: A beginner’s workshop
Podcasts offer a highly accessible format that can help you present, promote and more broadly disseminate your research. This workshop provides conceptual and hands-on instruction for participants to complete an episode of a podcast during the course, from learning to develop a concept, record oneself and/or interview partners, and complete all necessary audio post-production. Participants receive feedback and critique from both instructors and peers to develop and refine their projects at each stage of completion.
Applicants submit a summary of their podcast idea with their application, which should relate in some way to their coursework, scholarship or research. The workshop is not intended for producing promotional content. Those that already have an ongoing podcast and want to improve its quality are also welcome to apply.
Dates: Mondays, 17:40-19:20, April 8 – May 6. There will be a 2 week break for production, and the sixth & final session will be on May 27.
Workshop 2: Podcasting Belvedere Stories
This workshop will focus on creating stories for and about the Belvedere Museum. Students will collaborate with Museum staff to create podcasts that explore its activities and operations, and the podcasts created in the course may be used by the Museum for promotional purposes. This is an excellent opportunity to experience working with a partner organization to create audio content, in this case a prestigious Viennese institution, and for participants to have their work heard by a large audience.
A fixed number of spots in this workshop are reserved for 2nd year CPS BA students, who have the option of taking this for course credit. CPS students who are interested should notify the workshop instructor and BA coordinator prior to applying.
Dates: Mondays, 15:20-17:40, April 8 – May 6. There will be a 2 week break for production, and the sixth & final session will be on May 27.
Guidelines:
For each workshop, 12 applicants will be selected to participate on a first come, first served basis.
Students, faculty and staff are welcome to apply.
All sessions are necessary to complete each workshop, please make sure that you can attend all.
No prior experience is necessary, but applicants should have basic computer skills.
Except as noted above for Workshop 2, these cannot be taken for course credit.

INSTRUCTOR BIO
Mag. Peter Kollreider is a sound director, musician and artist. He studied communication science at the University of Vienna, and computer music at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna. He is the founder of Hoerwinkel, a company specialized in audio storytelling and podcasting.
DI Thomas Aichinger is CEU’s Audio Education Specialist. He studied media art at the University of Applied Arts in Salzburg. He is the founder of scopeaudio, a sound studio for sound design and audio post production. As Audio Education Specialist at CEU, Thomas teaches courses in Audio Production and Podcasting and is responsible for the Audio Lab in Vienna.
Together, Thomas and Peter founded SONIC TRACES, a company that creates location based augmented audio reality experiences, with a strong focus on content instead of technology.
